What's On My Needles This Week 05/25/2026

3rd mosaic plaid scarf

The mosaic plaid scarf is still on my needles, but I’ve been obsessing over the creation of a dragon scale-like knit stitch. Something that doesn’t look like a crocodile crochet stitch, but shares its 3d effect. And I have finally achieved my goal, after 1-1/2 years of off and on trials and errors.

And I have been able to create smaller versions as well.

Medium, small, and smallest, in addition to large.

I’m still working on the plaid mosaic scarf, when I’m in the mood, but I feel compelled to work on something new. I guess I’m feeling bored of the mosaic plaid scarf, because it’s the third iteration of my design, and its time consuming to make.

First and second mosaic plaid designs; the second one is a scarf/shawl. The second took months to complete, in part because of the fire.

This latest iteration is beautiful, but I feel more and more restless when I work on it. No changes from section to section, as with the first two. Also, I realized I made a mistake 16 inches in. I fixed it, but it bothers me. I refuse to start over!

So, basically, almost half of the scarf will have the error and the rest will be correct. Oh well.

Anyway, I’m also working on a Christmas knit for another cousin – a man.

The color, and stitch pattern were selected by my cousin, so I’m certain that it will be appreciated and worn.

When it’s finished, I will make a matching beanie. I have my own beanie pattern that has the same stitch pattern used on the scarf. I call the hat pattern the “Sloan Beanie”. It’s simple and very wearable beanie.

Here’s some examples:

These two beanies were made years ago. As you may be able to tell, they were knitted flat and then mattress stitched together.

I am considering publishing the pattern on this blog. If you would be interested, Contact Me. I would love to know what you think of the design.
